Dr. Abigail Owens was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. From a young age, her family knew a career in veterinary medicine was in her future as she was always bandaging her “injured” stuffed animals, sneaking furry friends inside the house, and caring for the family’s gaggle of pets.

Dr. Owens was a student-athlete at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA where she studied business and played NCAA Division I Volleyball.  After graduating in 2009 with a degree in Marketing, she moved to Columbia, MO to pursue her childhood passion of a career in veterinary medicine.

She earned her degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Her diploma now proudly hangs next to a self-portrait  she painted in the first grade that reads “When I grow up, I want to be a vet.”

Dr. Owens accepted a position at Blue Springs Animal Hospital shortly after graduating from Mizzou. Her interests include enhancing the human-animal bond by developing strong relationships through interaction with her patients and their families, canine reproductive medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and educating owners about preventative medicine to help keep the pets they love healthy well into their senior years.

Dr. Owens resides in downtown Kansas City with her four-legged best friend, Matilda, a Yorkshire Terrier who has been by her side since their time on the East Coast.

In her free time, Dr. Owens enjoys participating in and watching sporting events (MIZ!), exploring the outdoors with Matilda, hunting waterfowl, fishing, relaxing with family & friends, and dreaming of traveling.
