Welcome to Canine Camp

Blue Springs Pet Resort offers upscale and affordable dog boarding for clients in Blue Springs and surrounding Kansas City areas.

Canine Camp, which shares a 12,000 sq foot facility with the veterinary hospital and grooming salon, provides a home-away-from-home boarding environment that is fun and comfortable for your pet.

We know that leaving your pet when you go away is hard, and that you trust us to provide the best care possible for the pet you love. Living up to that trust is our most important responsibility. As pet lovers ourselves, we provide the level of care to your pet that we want for our own.

If you have never visited us, we invite you to stop by for a tour. We would love to meet you and your pets.

Professional Staff
Pet Resort Manager Jamie Chrisman is a veterinary school graduate who chose the Pet Resort as a career over practicing veterinary medicine. Jamie is a Level 1 Certified Pet Care Technician by the Pet Care Services Association (formerly American Boarding Kennel Association).

Jamie trains and leads a team of dedicated and attentive pet lovers who pamper the guests with attention and TLC. All Pet Resort staff are trained in basic pet care and safety, disease prevention, and animal behavior. They participate in regular meetings and training activities and become quite knowledgeable and experienced in caring for pets.

Whether your pet is outgoing and loves to play, or shy and needs a gentle touch, the staff are there to meet all their needs and to make them as happy as possible during their visit.

Health Monitoring and On-Site Veterinarians
The Pet Resort staff is trained to routinely monitor dogs carefully, keeping records of appetite, urination, bowel movements, and watching closely for signs of a health concern. If there is ever a problem, our veterinarians are just steps away.

Special Medical Needs
We are able to provide boarding care for dogs with medical needs, such as insulin injections, oral medications, SQ fluids, eye or ear medications, and most other special needs. Please make us aware of such special medical concerns or treatments when booking your reservations. There is no extra charge in most cases.

Pampered Pet Playschool...for the FUN of it!
The resort offers a 1,000 sq foot indoor activity center for the enjoyment of our canine campers. Each morning and afternoon pets can vent excess energy, develop positive social skills, and hang out with the gang!

Activities include playing ball, fetching Frisbees, chasing bubbles, and learning to slipper slide! Some summer days may also include splashing in the toddler pool. Of course, campers often invent their own games too   - chase my tail, chase your tail, and chase the gang around and around and around the room are popular.

The group play sessions are led and constantly supervised by one of our fun-loving Pet Resort Counselors. The counselors are alert and monitor the body language and interactions between the dogs, striving to help all of the dogs get along and have fun. For the safety of all the campers, a pet who repeatedly behaves aggressively toward other pets or the Pet Resort staff will be removed from Pampered Pet Playschool.

If a dog seems fearful or is not having fun, a counselor will encourage them and give them some time to overcome their shyness and participate. Most dogs learn to love playtime, and it is an excellent way to socialize puppies who are fearful and shy. If a dog continues to dislike the activities after ample time to acclimate, we will recommend removal from playtime.

Pampered Pet Playschool is included in the fee for the theme cabins. For a small additional fee pet's staying in rooms or bunks can join in the fun too!!

Dogs older than 7 months must be spayed or neutered to participate.

Bunks
For small dogs who seek the security of their crate, you may opt for a cozy Bunk. Bunks range in size from 10 to 20 cubic feet and can accommodate dogs up to 35#. Toy breeds especially seem to feel snug and secure cuddled up in their own bunk.

Occupancy is limited to one per bunk.

Bunk occupants may participate in Pampered Pet Playschool for an additional fee.

Daily Routine
Every dog, regardless of accommodations, is individually walked outdoors on a flexi-lead by a staff member at least twice per day, early in the morning and evening. Puppies or geriatric pets who require a mid-day walk can be accommodated upon request, or if a staff member notices it is needed.

During the walking times, the staff roll a supply cart to each kennel (like a maid cart at a hotel) and care for all the pet's needs, including feeding, fresh water, medications, and cleaning. The kennels are sanitized twice daily while the dogs walk outside, and cleaned other times through the day if they become soiled.

Between the AM and PM walking and cleaning sessions, the staff have 4 pampered pet playtime sessions - a morning and afternoon session for small and large dogs. Over the noon hour between playtime sessions all dogs retire to their private areas for a mid-day nap.

Why don't we offer indoor/outdoor runs?
We are often asked the question and the answer is simple. We believe we provide better care for your pet by keeping them in a climate controlled, clean, pest free environment. Many days in Missouri the outdoors is not that pleasant! It would be impossible to effectively control the climate and prevent disease carrying insects from invading our facility with that many portals into our building.

Also, in many facilities with indoor/outdoor runs the pets receive little care and attention. They are shut in to clean outdoors and out to clean indoors. We believe human contact and attention is important! Our guests enjoy and look forward to their leash walks and interaction with our counselors!

Cleanliness and Sanitation
All accommodations are kept clean and sanitized with our central power wash system. The powerwash mixes an antibacterial detergent with water to clean and disinfect walls and floors. Water and waste are collected in the drainage system running behind each kennel which can be flushed several times per day to carry waste and odors out of the building.

We have a commercial dishwasher (like those used in school cafeterias) to wash and disinfect bowls, toys, and other items. For bedding and towels, we use a commercial washer and dryer.

We maintain healthy air and odor control with 9 separate heating and air conditioning systems and separate exhaust fans for each room.

Our staff is educated and trained in the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment for our guests!

Fine Dining
We strongly recommend that you bring your pet's regular food to avoid the tummy upset that can occur with sudden diet changes. If you choose to have us furnish the food, your pet will be fed premium quality iVet dry food. The daily boarding rate is the same whether we feed your food or our food.

If you bring your pet's regular food, please bring only an amount appropriate for the length of the stay. Dry food should be transferred into zip lock bags or a plastic container. Do not bring the original bag. Please allow us to provide dishes for your pet. Our dishes are custom fit to a special holder and can be sanitized in our commercial dishwasher.

Treats
Our staff like to give out treats! You may bring treats for your pet or have us give our treats. If your pet is on a special diet we will not give treats unless you bring treats appropriate for their special needs.

 Personal Belongings
We recommend that you allow us to provide bedding and toys. We provide synthetic wool bedding custom sized for your pet's accommodations. Our bedding is laundered daily in our commercial washer and dryer. If you know your dog will chew bedding, please warn us.

If you choose to bring personal bedding please limit it to one piece per pet. Personal bedding should be no larger than the size of a bath towel. NO STUFFED OR FOAM BEDDING which can not be laundered.

We provide toys for dogs which can be washed and sanitized in our dishwasher. If you bring personal toys, please limit to two toys per pet.

ALL PERSONAL ITEMS MUST BE LABELED IN PERMANENT MARKER WITH YOUR LAST NAME AND YOUR PET"S NAME. WE DO OUR BEST TO RETURN ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS, BUT AT TIMES THINGS GET MISPLACED OR - UGGGH - CHEWED TO SHREDS. You may not get everything back!!

Preventative Health Requirements
Blue Springs Pet Resort has strict health requirements for all boarding pets for a very good reason - we are committed to keeping your pet safe and healthy! If we failed to require protection against contagious diseases and parasites, we could not promise your pet the safest environment possible. Our standards are high, but we hope you will see that as a strong advantage to boarding your pet with us.

All dogs in Canine Camp must be current on the routine preventative health care for contagious diseases listed in the table to the right. To ensure quality control and adequate protection, vaccinations and parasite testing must be provided by a licensed veterinarian.

  •  If your pet is a patient at our hospital, we will already be familiar with your pet's wellness care and medical history.

  • If your pet is under the care of another veterinary hospital, please bring a copy of the records/receipt. Pets will not be admitted without proof of vaccinations and parasite testing.

  • If your pet is not current, we welcome your appointment in advance or at the time of boarding to update your pet.
