Dr. Carey has been doctoring Blue Spring's area pets for more than 30 years.
After graduating in 1968 from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri, he started Haymarket Animal Clinic in Blue Springs.
In 1986, he purchased Blue Springs Animal Hospital and moved his practice to the 40 Highway location.
Dr. Carey has kept his veterinary skills sharp and demonstrated his commitment to top quality medical care through an exceptionally strong record of continuing education. In the last 5 years alone he logged over 150 hours of continuing education.
Over the years, Dr. Carey has been a very active participant in the Blue Springs community. Some of his activities have included serving as an elder of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church and being active with the Boy Scouts, Kiwanis Club, and Agri-Science Advisory Committee for BS R-4 Schools. For the last few years he has been serving on the Steering Committee for R.U.F.F, a citizens group sponsoring Pooches On The Parkway and supporting the Blue Springs Dog Park.
Dr. Carey met his wife, Donna, while attending Veterinary College and they were married in 1967. They have four grown children - Jeff, Mark, Allison, and Amanda. Jeff, an attorney in Lee's Summit, is married to Chelli and they have 2 daughters, Marin and Jaden, and a son, Graf. Mark is a software specialist for Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN and his wife Erin is an MD doing an
OB/GYN residency at Mayo. Allison, is a a civil engineer for Burns & McDonnell in KC, and her husband Garon is a financial specialist for Citicorp. Amanda is an English teacher at BS R-4 Freshman Center and her finance is Evan, a chemist at Midwest Research Institute ( they will marry in August 2009).
With all their kids now living on their own, Dr. Carey and Donna share their home in Blue Springs with only the 2 cats, Fingers and Nikita, who joined them as kittens in 1992 and 1993. In his free time, Dr. Carey enjoys gardening, bicycling, hiking, backpacking and watching sports.
I truly appreciate the opportunity I've been given of helping our voiceless 4-legged friends and making a difference for them and their owners. Our pets serve a vital role in our complex society. The relationships we have with these pets brings stability and enjoyment to our lives. Helping people preserve these relationships as best possible is my goal with every interaction I have during each workday.
At Blue Springs Animal Hospital & Pet Resort I enjoy the privilege of working with a great group of veterinarians, registered technicians, doctor's assistants, animal care assistants, pet resort counselors and groomers. They make work rewarding and exemplify our motto, " It's All About Caring". Adding to that the wonderful pets and owners I serve makes my job the best anyone could want.
